Tim S

I started my data journey over a decade ago after researching and completing a study on the Millennial demographic. Since then, I have worked with data tools such as Microsoft SQL Server, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. Along with data engineering, I have led teams and data engineers to create solutions with security in the solution. I've also written hundreds of technical articles (linked below this).

Experience

3Cloud - Senior Consultant In Data & AI

November 2023 - Present

  • Migrated a legacy SSIS and SQL Server data warehouse and ETL solution to Azure Databricks and the medallion data lake architecture.

  • Built the data side with Azure Databricks and a PaaS SQL database to create an incentive solution for sales agents.

CyrusOne & Akkodis - Lead Data Engineer

August 2022 - November 2023

  • Akkodis contract for CyrusOne (September 2022 to July 2023); converted to full time July 2023

  • Assisted leading a team of 3 data engineers by collaborating on technical projects and weekly discussing best practices to reduce cloud costs and increase performance of cloud resources

  • Drafted the data governance strategy for the analytics Azure subscription with peer review from administrators in other teams

  • Led the daily team standups by reviewing open items from the Azure DevOps board, organizing stories with tags, and collaborating using comments with team members about solutions and impediments

  • Organized the effort to migrate Azure Data Factory pipelines, Azure Databricks’ notebooks, Power BI reports, and transformative SQL outside of these platforms into a consolidated ELT Synapse model of data organization

  • Uncovered data corruption with automated checks for data integrity and collaborated with cross-functional teams including executive stakeholders to enforce data integrity across sources by architecting an anchoring data model

  • Gathered requirements from business stakeholders by reviewing and documenting their custom reports then coordinated with appropriate teams how to accurately produce reports through automated pipelines

  • Architected ELT pipelines with reusability principles that streamlined secure communication to SQL Server databases, Salesforce APIs, and custom APIs with documentation that included stakeholders, data definitions, business rules and proposed unit tests for peer review

  • Recognized and awarded in quarterly all hands by the CIO for outstanding work in innovative development and transparent and accountable documentation.

Productive Edge - Senior Consultant

August 2022 - November 2023

  • Note: project-based work

  • Completed the project of migrating an Azure Databricks hyperflow project to a different cloud provider while enhancing its connectivity to other cloud platforms.

Bright Healthcare - Senior Data Engineer

July 2020 - March 2022

  • Reduced errors and troubleshooting in ETL pipelines by converting Azure Data Factory ETL projects to Azure Databricks with health checks and enhanced logging.

  • Eliminated manual intervention for ETL pipelines by consolidating multi-tooled ETL pipelines (Azure Data Factory, manual FTP uploads, Azure Logic Apps, manual script API calls, etc) into single platform ETL pipelines (Azure Databricks).

  • Helped build efforts to resolve the challenge of multiple combined identifiers (many-to-many relationships).

  • Saved development teams at least 10% in development time by adding and updating unit and function testing to enforce business rules and regularly met with business stakeholders to obtain new rules to enforce.
